Frequently Asked Questions

Note: Boring Research LLC has transitioned to R&D consulting as of September 2024. Products are no longer manufactured. Some FAQ items below relate to the previous product business.

How long did it take you to ship?

In general we shipped in 1–2 business days from order date. We emailed customers an expected shipment date on order confirmation.

How did you ship your products?

We worked exclusively with the United States Postal Service. Smaller orders went out via First Class mail and larger orders via USPS Flat Rate Priority Mail. This typically meant 2–3 day delivery with tracking.

What are the cutouts in the Spindle Squares for?

Two reasons: (1) Weight reduction — to get under 10oz for reduced USPS shipping rates for bare tool orders. (2) Appearance — it gives us an additional place to add dimension to the tool and add branding.

Do you offer discounts for non-profits/education?

We did this on a case by case basis depending on the need. Contact us for more information about your organization.

Why is the aluminum in the Spindle Square a raw finish?

Part of the design was to maintain universality with different indicators. The raw aluminum is going to be safe and prevent marring of the stems of many different indicators in the event of rough treatment such as a crash.

Do you do custom orders?

In the past we have done custom shanks for our Spindle Squares. Contact us with what you have in mind.

Do you combine shipping?

We combined shipping wherever we could and refunded the difference back to our customer.

What is your return policy?

If there was a manufacturing defect or issue with the product we will either replace or refund in full after receiving the return. In other cases where the item wasn't needed or was ordered by mistake we charge a 15% restocking fee. This covers the loss for selling the item as used and makes up for any banking fees lost.

Can I replace the shank on my Spindle Square?

They are retained three different ways: setscrew, slight press fit, and use of sleeve retaining fluid. It isn't advisable to replace the shank. We do make custom shanks for particular applications — contact us for more information.
